JoinWell: WELL Catches Olympic Fever in South Korea

It’s hard to escape Olympic Fever in South Korea at the moment, and WELL co-founders Ildar Fazulyanov and Alex Prokhorov are certainly not immune. (Too bad a vaccine hasn’t been invented yet!) The WELL team is currently on a road trip through Asia, speaking with potential partners about the platform, but Alex and Ildar took a quick detour and stopped by the Olympic Village in Pyeongchang to cheer on Team Russia.

First up, was an enviable meeting of Olympic legends, which sat the WELL team in the bleachers alongside Vladimir Krylov, who won gold in the 100m relay at the 1988 Olympics; Murat Kardanov, a gold medalist in wrestling at the 2000 Sydney Olympics; Svetlana Ishmouratova, winner of three Olympic medals, including gold in the women’s 15k biathlon at the winter Olympics in Turin in 2006; and Vera Krasnova, a silver medalist in speed skating at the 1972 winter games.

Alex and Ildar soon made their way to the Russia House to meet with athletes and show their support. WELL, a global telemedicine platform that provides on-demand doctor’s appointments, was founded in 2015 after Ildar suffered a snowboarding accident and couldn’t find a physical therapist for four weeks, so the Winter Olympics was the perfect place to show off exactly what the platform can do. One of the company’s main features is a network of doctors who speak a multitude of languages, which is reinforced by concierge translation services. For an athlete on the road, the ability to see a physical therapist in their own language is invaluable, and the benefits of WELL couldn’t have been more relevant than in the Olympic village.

Of course WELL’s main purpose in South Korea was to meet with potential partners about possible collaborations. So while the athletes were going for gold, it was time for WELL to say goodbye, and Ildar and Alex cheered for Russia one last time before returning to business as usual. Back in Seoul, WELL had the opportunity to meet with crypto exchange Coinbox; Medivision Global Corporation, which has several clinics in Seoul and one in China; as well as with one of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in Korea in what proved to be a very successful leg of the trip.

WELL founders Ildar Fazulyanov and Alex Prokhorovmeet top managers of Medivision Global Co.

One final note is that WELL is still looking for representatives online and on the ground in South Korea. If you’re based in Korea, are passionate about WELL, and want to be part of the telemedicine revolution, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us at
